The City of Langley is located in the Fraser Valley Region of Southwestern British Columbia, east of Metro Vancouver and immediately east of the City of Surrey. The City of Langley was formed in 1955, and is bordered to the north, east and south by the geographically larger Township of Langley. The City of Langley has a geographic area of approximately 10 square kilometres with a population of over 25,000, and offers amenities such as regional shopping and 300 acres of parks.
The Township of Langley is bordered by the Cities of Surrey and Langley to the west, the Fraser River to the north, the District of Abbotsford to the east, and Washington State to the south. Incorporated in 1873, the Township is home to the original Capital City of British Columbia (Fort Langley). Langley remains predominantly rural agricultural and residential in nature, with the City of Langley being the more urban in terms of density. The key transportation corridor (the Trans‐Canada Highway) routes through the Township from the northwest to the east, connecting the communities of the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver to routes into the interior of British Columbia. The township has a population of approximately 100,000 and a geographic area of approximately 316 square kilometres.
